What Are the Lu Jong Five Elements Movements?
From the mountains of Tibet, we receive a movement practice that establishes a fundamental balance in body and mind.
This set of five exercises focuses on nurturing the spine and balancing the calming and active energies.
The movements effectively massage the spine, thereby releasing blocks and encouraging the flow of energy. The result is more relaxation, centeredness and vitality.
Additionally, they balance the five elements—archetypal energies that are the basis of all phenomena and the foundation of our bodies and minds.
This 15-minute practice can be done anywhere and is accessible to all ages and abilities.
And, through the combination of movement + deep breathing + mindfulness, this becomes a meditation in movement.
Where Does the Practice Come From?
Rooted in Tibetan Medicine, Bön and Tantrayana Buddhism,
Lu Jong is truly a treasure of Tibet.
The Lu Jong Five Elements Movements are rooted in Tibetan Medicine and are part of the Buddhist path.
Lu Jong was originally developed by the yogis to prepare the body and mind for higher spiritual pursuits. In order to progress spiritually, it is important to have a fundamental degree of health and to be able to calm and focus the mind. And, the openness of the spine and central channel are of utmost importance.
*Note: These are not the “Five Tibetans,” which focus on the chakras, not the elements. And, while beneficial, they are of unknown origin, meaning they are not attributed to any Tibetan lineage.

Who is My Teacher?
Farrah Garan
Certified Lu Jong Educator
& Student of Tulku Lobsang Rinpoche for 20 years
Hi, I’m Farrah :) I teach traditional Tibetan healing movement practices that empower us to cultivate a calm mind, vibrant energy and open heart, including: Lu Jong Tibetan Healing Yoga, Tog Chöd Sword Dance, and Tsa Lung Breathwork.
I received the Tantrayana Buddhist tradition from my teacher, Tulku Lobsang. I have worked closely with Tulku Lobsang since 2002, as a student, chairwoman of the North American branch of his organization, North American Tour Coordinator, and employee of Nangten Menlang International. My main work for the organization today is writing the Teacher’s manuals.
I am absolutely dedicated to spreading the deep wisdom of the Tibetan healing arts. My aim is to make these simple—but powerfully effective—practices widely known, so that all may benefit from more energy, and deep inner peace.
